to be annoyed at some of the parents in ds's class

Ds is going into Yr 3 in September and his class found out who their new teacher was today. The teacher has been witht he school for a couple of years and has previously taught in Yr 5. A group of mothers announced disgustedly that 'she's the lesbian one'. When I asked how they knew this they said she has short hair, wears no make up and trousers and is! I said I didn't judge on appearances and did it matter anyway. One of them said huffily it didn't matter but it was so obvious that it did matter. How does her sexuality affect her teaching fgs. I am still annoyed

YANBU. It' scary that people with such narrow minds have children and can pass these bigoted views on to them.

MathsMadMummy · 13/07/2010 18:39

do you mean they actually did know she's a lesbian anyway? or were they just guessing because of appearance?

and are you absolutely sure they were being 'disgusted' rather than just pointing it out?

if so... OMG

dorie · 13/07/2010 18:39

LOL! My DS's teacher is obviously gay - but a brilliant teacher and all the kids love him!

As you say who cares what sexuality a person is? As long as they are up to the job they are being paid for that's all that matters.

pjmama · 13/07/2010 18:39

World is full of narrow minded idiots. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

2shoes · 13/07/2010 18:41

yanbu
some people are just plain stupid

SixtyFootDoll · 13/07/2010 18:43

YANBU
What a bunch of idiots

BabyDubsEverywhere · 13/07/2010 18:45

Ive never understood the problem people have with others sexuality, unless you intend to try and sleep with them why does it matter? You should ask them if they fancy her!

LC200 · 13/07/2010 18:45

YANBU. Absolutely disgraceful.

FranSanDisco · 13/07/2010 18:46

MMM, this was what I was trying to find out -do they know for a fact or does her appearance convince them she must be. Even if it is a fact because she told them why announce it to everyone. They traipsed into her class and just looked at her and walked out . Awful really.

Can't believe people still have issues with that kind of stuff these days. No, actually, I can.

FranSanDisco · 13/07/2010 18:55

They weren't discreet in their announcement either and my 9 yo asked what a lesbian was. She is well aware of the meaning of gay so if any good has come out of this it is a lesson in sexuality for dd. I explained that no-one would descibe me as 'Mrs FSD, the heterosexual one'. She thinks they are 'idiots' as she likes this teacher alot.

LuluF · 13/07/2010 19:05

I never get that either. I have known people make a fuss about gay people and gay teachers - as if being gay makes them more predatory than someone who is heterosexual, that somehow, because the person is gay/lesbian they will automatically fancy every man/boy, woman/girl, as if they are incapable of being discerning 'like heterosexual people'.

SE13Mummy · 13/07/2010 19:05

A teacher who wears trousers, has short hair and doesn't wear make-up is probably one who grovels around on the floor, doesn't like having to chop PVA glue out of her long, flowing hair and hasn't the time/energy/co-ordination in the morning to put on make-up.

That's my take on it anyway - I am a teacher who has short hair, wears trousers but no make-up and I'm not a lesbian nor would I expect to be described as one.

shockers · 13/07/2010 19:13

Some people are just idiots.

Shame its not at one of my kids schools.

Describes most of the mums - teachers are much more glamorous.

Seriously though WTF?

ReasonableDoubt · 13/07/2010 19:45

Backwards twats

escorchio · 13/07/2010 19:49

Look on the bright side. I'd guess she'll be a smashing teacher, and the child will have a fabulous year, then be able to tell his mother that lesbian teachers are just the same as most of the rest. Child teaching parent - again!

sweetbloom · 13/07/2010 19:52

Its a shame that so many people judge on apperances its whats in the inside that matters even if she is gay, I would not mind in the slightest, but in this case its whats she can provide for the children educationally.
People should never judge a book by its cover this is the sad state we live in with clearly some very ignorant parents i'd say.
And so what if she is not gay, who cares if she has short hair, and does not wear make up she sounds like a nice lady.
I think they are very unresonable feel for their children really.

Snobear4000 · 13/07/2010 20:00

Don't socialise with those people then. It's a good thing they have revealed themselves for who they are.

Remember before children, we chose our friends. We should all continue to do so. There is no reason at all why you need to as much as look at another parent if they are from that school of thought. Fuck 'em, and ignore 'em.

You're better than the lot of them.

FranSanDisco · 13/07/2010 20:08

Snobear4000, I don't think I can bear to see them tomorrow. Luckily, once dcs reach Yr 3 you no longer have to collect them from the classroom but can meet them in the playground. I am planning to just meet dd and ds near the gate to avoid these parents as much as possible next year .

Op - you are worried about women calling the teacher a lesbian?? yet you call people name's

Snobear4000 · 13/07/2010 20:18

thesunshinesbrightly...

Where exactly did OP call people names? Do you not like gays yourself? Are you one of the bigots? Which school did you go to, and did they not teach you about correct use of apostrophes?

thesunshinesbrightly · 13/07/2010 20:24

Snobear -

Some of my friend's are gay and it all come's back to apostrophes, do me a favour and fuck off.

Snobear4000 · 13/07/2010 20:31

You did not answer my question. Where did OP call people names? You are looking quite the fool now.
