to be awkward about having to remind a friend that she owes me money?

I bought some stuff for her and paid for it. When I gave her the stuff she said she didn't have her purse on her. Since then no mention of the money (£10). No bad intentions I'm sure, just scattiness. But I feel so awkward reminding her!

You have probably been brooding over this and have made it more than it is, which might mean that you will handle it awkwardly. Just raise the matter in a light-hearted way.

Next time you meet up ust say'oh, do you have that tenner for the clothes I bought?'

you don't have to make a big deal of it

ooh same here, I ordered my friend some trousers on my NEXT catalogue £29.99 + £3.50 P+P, weeks ago, she is a close friend, hasnt said a word, not really sure how to address it

KickArseQueen · 12/07/2010 23:38

shit! Is it me?

oopslateagain · 12/07/2010 23:40

OMG no please do remind her! I am the world's worst at remembering money things; I tell all my friends that if I owe them money they MUST remind me. One mate reminded me three times I owed her £5, I paid every time, she finally owned up and gave me a tenner back

Just say "Oh I just remembered that stuff I bought for you, I bet you forgot it too! Aren't we awful..."

oopslateagain · 12/07/2010 23:41

macdoodle, I ordered some stuff from my friends catalogue, the money wasn't due until the statement came in which was about six weeks after I got my order. Maybe your friend is just waiting for you to tell her they bill has arrived?

I'm useless at paying debts and appreciate it when people remind me. In fact now I ask people to remind me. I'm not too good at reminding people myself though but do know the longer it goes on the harder it is so better to bite the bullet.

Nyx · 12/07/2010 23:49

I also don't think it should be too awkward - I am another who has a terrible memory and really needs to be reminded about anything I may owe. It's honestly not deliberate and I would be more p'd off if I remembered myself, 3 months down the line or whatever, and realised that the person hadn't reminded me

Just say "ooh, while I think of it, can we settle up for the shopping from last week?"

YellowDaffodil · 13/07/2010 10:25

Shit is it me? I owe my BF £30 from last week. Off to the cashpoint and florists.

Hopefully your friend is on MN and you have reminded her through the Internet.

Seriously I always forget and I am never offended when people remind me. I feel silly and guilty but not offended.
