Bought a new DVD and finally sat down to watch it and I can't open the stupid box. There is a red rectangular 'button' running along the edge where you normally pull it open. I've tried pushing it, twisting it, trying to slide it. Have almost mangld the box and I still can't get into it. It's clamped shut round this red button.

I MUST be being totally dim, and at this rate I won't have time to watch the film.

Can anyone help?

Am contemplating getting a hammer

It's the security tag that's been left on.

SandyBits · 12/07/2010 21:39

In which case, the hammer it is. Or a carefully applied kitchen knife I guess.

ihearthuckabees · 12/07/2010 21:41

Right, good to know. It was under the cellophane wrapper though.

Scared off slicing my fingers off with a knife.

What's the dvd? I have to know.

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 12/07/2010 21:44

Security tag. Needs to be removed by a very strong magnet.(or taken back to the shop for them to do)

LyraSilvertongue · 12/07/2010 21:46

I had this problem when a shop forgot to remove the security device. Sadly, even if you get it open, you won't be able to get the DVD out. The red thing runs through the box and makes it impossible the press in the middle to release the DVD. I managed it in the end with a knife but the box was ruined. Can you take it back to the shop?

ihearthuckabees · 12/07/2010 21:51

It's Slumdog Millionaire.

Will take it back to the shop. Still confused about the fact the cellophane wrapper was on top of the security tag.

Oooh, just remembered that i set the alarm off leaving the shop (Tescos) but security guard got me to walk through again and it was ok.

Slunks off to watch something mediocre on the Living Channel, or the News at Ten or summat.
