AIBU to think SOME kids/teenagers should be taught manners?

Had a bit of a run in with some teenagers last night. I was trying to get to sleep when some teenagers started banging and kicking the bus shelter out our front. It's the July 12th celebrations (Battle of the Boyne) but does that mean that manners and respect have to go out the window? Am I sane in thinking these people should be sent to boot-camp?

YANBU but does July 12th celebrations include kicking bus shelters, we wouldn't want to infringe on their human rights, would we? I suppose we can put in down to teenage hormones, it would be different if they were smashing it, Yes, to Boot camp then!

Yes, an awful lot of teenagers seem to think the world revolves around them - aided and abetted by parents who bristle with indignation if anyone dares complain to them about their rude,spoilt brats

Yanbu but this is not a new phenomenon. There have always been a core of teenagers who needed to be taught better manners. They grow up to be bad mannered adults. Then they breed more bad mannered children and teens.

I do think the perception that young people are getting worse is false. And has been around since the dawn of society.

Had a conversation with a friend not long back about teenagers and their behaviour. She made a very valid point though, she said that people may not be able to control their hormones but, they can control their actions.

I suppose that means that teens don't have any excuse now for bad behaviour.

god we have this with the local 3 and 4 year olds!!!

A lot of the time teenagers are like 2/3 year olds when it comes to impulse control- ie complete lack of it. There are arsey, nasty teens, but a huge majority just don't think through the effect their actions will have before they act.

I know that it doesn't help, because noise is noise, but they're often seen as 'bad' teens when they're more like giant toddlers.

They literally are little kids in giant bodies. They are the same amount of work as they were when they were little. only then they adored me and gave me hugs and made me little presents. Now I get a grunt if I'm lucky!

I think all children should be taught basic manners, but not all are. As someone said - that's always been the way. Teenagers do get bad press though and most that I have met are actually quite nice.

Good day to you all here. Whitecherry, not shifting blame but the benefits bashing was due to talking to my cousin (he's very opinionated), but he did ask me to thread it to see what response I would get. I can see his point.

I don't think it's fair on the taxpayer to fork out in taxes to give money to people who have more kids to avoid work.
I've heard of a mum who was getting DLA because her last pregnancy caused a bad back. Her back got better when she gave birth so she lost her DLA and was told that she'd have to start looking for work. She's told a few people she's got pregnant again to avoid work and get the DLA back.

These are the sort of people my cousin and I were talking about.
