I can hear DH watching it in the next room..... Clarkson with his hideous drawling voice and his sartorial inelegance of jacket with jeans, a load of cars screeching and a bunch of men acting like 5 year olds.
Hate it, hate it, hate it.

Top Gear is occasionally entertaining, but what I hate, other than Clarkson, of course, who is the smuggest of smug gits, is how Hammond and the other one sound like imitations of him in their style of presenting and speech patterns. Whenever DH is watching it I'm reminded of how bosses are said to employ people who resemble them, and wonder if Clarkson helped to choose the other two.

valleyqueen · 11/07/2010 22:58

I love Top Gear and I have a little bit of a crush on Jeremy

singsinthebath · 11/07/2010 23:29

Is anyone indifferent to it?

OP posts:
blinder · 11/07/2010 23:38

Valleyqueen a WHAT?!

In godsname why?

flibbertigibbert · 11/07/2010 23:45

Yes yes yes! I can't stand it. DP is obsessed with cars and worships Clarkson. I think he's an odious man (JC not DP).

valleyqueen · 11/07/2010 23:50

I don't know why. I think I attracted to his arrogance in some odd way.

My DH and I used to like it up until about 2 years ago, now neither of us can stand it. It stopped being about showcasing news cars and more about blowing up caravans and scripted nonsense. The presenters are also too smug for their own good which spoils the show as the focus should be on the cars not them.

edam · 12/07/2010 08:52

I think it's entertaining because the relationship between the presenters is amusing. They are just big kids having a laugh. And they know it.

edam · 12/07/2010 08:52

(I don't even drive - yet - and I love Top Gear!)

SpiderObsession · 12/07/2010 10:31

Hateit hateit hateit hateit hateit.
DH loves it.
DS (4) actually sits still when watching it. His eyes were glued to the Bugatti.

melikalikimaka · 12/07/2010 10:43

Top gear is amusing and gets loads of belly laughs in our house (3 males and me)so come off it YABVU. I have my programmes eg. Corrie so I think for one hour a week it is not unreasonable to let them enjoy it.

mummytime · 12/07/2010 10:45

I like it, and have used clips in lessons. Am I being unreasonable?

Them suffering with altitude sickness was a great way to get over the effects of altitude and low air pressure to a class for instance.

They are all supposed to be idiots, and not role models btw. And I discussed with my kids how JC is sometimes mildy homophobic but positively gushed over Will Young (it think that was after my son said a SMART was the most gay car, even after I had pointed out that no-one we know who is gay has one).

Oh and the Vietnam special really made me want to go there.

edam · 12/07/2010 11:00

Actually JC is about the only broadcaster I know of who was criticised for sexism (used to compare cars to women in Old Top Gear when it was more of a bog-standard car review show) listened, and stopped doing it. So I have a LOT of respect for him.

Morloth · 12/07/2010 11:11

The Bugatti was a thing of great beauty Spider, you should be pleased your DS has such good taste.

I like fast cars and shit getting blown up. Hell to me is a chick flick, there are never any explosions in those.

I like a good explosion.

Hai1988 · 12/07/2010 11:19

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVU

I love it, it is soo funny.

Also laugh's, fast cars and richard hammond to swoon over, what more can you ask for

imahappycamper · 12/07/2010 11:22

I hate it too. My DS has AS and it is his favourite programme so we get repeats of old programmes on Dave as well.
At least he has stopped talking like Jeremy Clarkson now!

Morloth · 12/07/2010 11:22

I like James May the best, he looks a bit simple. I like simple.

Hammond too short for me, would be like shagging a hobbit.

gagamama · 12/07/2010 11:25

I really like it. I don't drive, I'm not arsed in the slightest by cars, and I know that for the most part it's pure theatre. But I think it's bloody funny, very imaginative and often beautifully shot.

SpiderObsession · 12/07/2010 11:36

He'd best become a professional footballer or F1 driver to pay for one Morloth.

5Foot5 · 12/07/2010 13:18

I love the programme too and I am most certainly not a "petrol head" - good grief I drive an 8yo Polo that has started to grow mould.

But I find it very very entertaining and I even asked for a DVD of the Challenges for my birthday - which DD has since got her mits on so she and her mates can watch it.

melikalikimaka · 12/07/2010 14:10

Oh sod off you cocks! [as May would say]

Top Gear is BA A A A A D MAN! [in a good way!]

tegan · 12/07/2010 14:12

i have to admit dd1 and i watch every week and we sky + for dh so i then watch it again with him

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 12/07/2010 14:20

I LOVE Top Gear, we always watch it here - in HD so that we get the full effect of the explosions

It is fun, escapist TV, and brilliant entertainment.

I have a crush on James May
