My original story was
My bag of mixed peppers contained far more green than stated on the packet 34%green 33%red and 33% orange

I am sorry i dont know how to do the link thing

Anyway a few days ago we got a new bag and I divided the peppers into there colours and low and behold the green peppers came out at about 60% with the remaining 40% red and orange

Are the supermarkets allowed to con us like this? I dont want to take them back and complain as they might think I am a bit sad

It just makes me so cross

I definitely have a green pepper shortage.

Jason, I do not believe that I am now seriously, yes seriously, considering buying a bag of frozen peppers tommorrow to see if we have all the red and orange.

What have you done to me!!??

Well, I just popped in to see what all the fuss was about, but it's been an exciting glimpse into Jason / Keith's world.

Thanks for brightening my day

And for what it's worth, I say buy individual fresh peppers, cos you don't even need a whole one on a pizza, then freeze the rest ready-sliced for next time.

I wish my DH would think like that about firefighting equipment...

Here in the South West fresh peppers go in fits and starts (especially in the Value bags of mixed peppers). Some weeks it's all green ones with perhaps one orange one thrown in for good measure. Other times it's red and yellow ones without a green one in sight. I always buy a bag if it's red/yellow, and NEVER if it's just green!

juneybean · 13/07/2010 19:50

Interesting... I buy the bag of fresh peppers for nursery and they're nearly always all green.

SagacityNell · 13/07/2010 19:50

Mum just rang and she is a frozen pepper buyer so i asked her. She said she has noticed more green recently. I forgot to ask where she bought them. Doubt that she separated and weighed tho

Jason - I have visions of your kitchen being like a forensic science lab!

I don't think you should contact Trading Standards - I think you should be working for them (if you don't already).

But YANBU - why can't they just put "contents may vary" on the packaging to save you all the heartache & disappointment
