My original story was
My bag of mixed peppers contained far more green than stated on the packet 34%green 33%red and 33% orange

I am sorry i dont know how to do the link thing

Anyway a few days ago we got a new bag and I divided the peppers into there colours and low and behold the green peppers came out at about 60% with the remaining 40% red and orange

Are the supermarkets allowed to con us like this? I dont want to take them back and complain as they might think I am a bit sad

It just makes me so cross

Love the thought of you counting all of those . However how would you feel broad beans or even peas?

onepieceoflollipop · 10/07/2010 22:09

Someone seriously needs to CAT this to Aitch. (I haven't updated my payment so can't do it myself)

Disclaimer: I have ventured rather far into rl this past week (even had a gathering last night )

Not so long ago I would have known they were frozen and what brand.

onepieceoflollipop · 10/07/2010 22:10

(CAT it to Aitch for the round up I mean)

I was a bit confused when I thought it was whole peppers. I mean, what did he think they would do, chop bits off to make the proportions equal!

Bernieishoneydragonsnemisis · 10/07/2010 22:11

well your not making nice pizza are you as they are covered in yucky green peppers?

Be a man, take the peppers back with one of your lovely pizzas to demonstrate to the store manager how it is "sullied, sullied I say, by your green peppers, sir/madam", then throw the pizza down at his feet and sob.

Rockbird · 10/07/2010 22:11

So did I...

ruddynorah · 10/07/2010 22:11

jasonthunderpants you are not my dh are you?! we were at a fire station open today...

onepieceoflollipop · 10/07/2010 22:12

ruddynorah if he is calling you from the bedroom "fireman jase is going to get you!" then yes, he is your dh.

If he is, do him a favour and tell him you have gone off peppers.

Jasonthunderpants · 10/07/2010 22:14

was it at Birkenshaw or Birkencliff nr Bradford

OP posts:
ruddynorah · 10/07/2010 22:15

That's just freaky!

ruddynorah and jasonthunderpants, ARE you married or is it just a freaky coincidence (in which case, ruddy, did you notice someone walking round the open day muttering about peppers?)?!

I NEED TO KNOW!

SagacityNell · 11/07/2010 11:14

Where did they both go? They never came back!

Galena · 11/07/2010 13:11

Maybe they got 'distracted'!

Jasonthunderpants · 11/07/2010 14:24

I would like to quash the rumours that I am married to ruddynorah

OP posts:
Galena · 11/07/2010 14:33

Awww, I got all excited for a moment that you might have discovered each others' secret identities.

sigh

Quality · 11/07/2010 16:17

All I want to know is did ruddynorah ask her DH if he was Jasonthunderpants, and then when he said 'no' wtf did she say?

And Jason, you weirdo, the percentage mix is what is set in the factory for the whole mix, so they add that percentage of peppers into a big vat (or whatever) and fill bags out of that, you can't have a sample size of one bag and declare it unfair.
You need to go back and buy at least 20 bags, and then do another count.

It's okay, we'll wait.

SagacityNell · 11/07/2010 16:33

"All I want to know is did ruddynorah ask her DH if he was Jasonthunderpants, and then when he said 'no ' wtf did she say?"

me too!

(we should be able to quote posts don't you think?)

HecateQueenOfWitches · 11/07/2010 16:34

You know he will, don't you?

ruddynorah · 11/07/2010 16:43

haha

no i am not married to jasonthunderpants!!

what a small world it is.

i said to dh 'oooooh listen to this!! there's a bloke on mn who's always moaning on about green peppers, well you'll never guess what..he was at that fire station do today!!!'

dh was like

for some reason he didn't think this fact was at all interesting or amusing

Quality · 11/07/2010 16:59

DH is constantly bemused by thigns that amuse me on 'CronesNet' (as in ym imaginary cronies btw...)

NetworkGuy · 11/07/2010 18:16

Makes me think of the Co-Op bag of lamb which was 51% lamb and 49% mutton. It's only in the small print of course, but if you are paying for something and it is consistently not what is packaged up, then yes, it is worth a complaint to the store.

Ignore the negative comments - it's clearly not as described, and the store may be "in the dark" because a supplier might have been bagging with their bags, a mix intended for another supermarket, so your store may not even know.

Many products come from the same supply depots with slight differences in ingredients, as can be proved whenever there's a warning about contamination and they list products from 3 to 5 different supermaket chains (typically 'own brand' items).

Quality · 11/07/2010 19:43

Seriously, at risk of being called sexist, is this a man thing?

Lamb/mutton, it's still dead sheep.

Katiekitty · 11/07/2010 21:01

Jason - I feel your outrage.

I'm the poster who lollipop refers to regarding the mystery chunk of meat in my vegetarian chili, so I feel something of an old-hand at getting cross at errant foodstuffs.

Do write a letter to the manufacturers, see what explanation they come back with. They may have been banking on nobody counting the peppers individually. They may not even be aware of the problem.

Go for it! Exercise your consumer rights! Grrr
