I know i'm a bit sensitive to kiwi (tingly itchy mouth) but appear to have had the same thing only worse after pineapple.

Ate it yesterday evening and had itchy face and mouth all evening and didn't twig.

Just looked in a mirror for the first time today and noticed it's all little scratches all round my mouth and chin (thought it was a bit sore but haven't got round to looking)so maybe i was scratching in my sleep or something (although i have no nails to scratch with).

Anyway - the rest of the pineapple is sitting looking tasty and delicious in the fridge.

Should I test my theory or not?

I would, but that's me.

I have been eating pineapple all my long life with no problems but the last two times I got a reaction just like you describe - swollen lips and red tongue. Rinsed my mouth out with water and with milk which did not help. No more fresh pineapple for me, though I am still fine with cooked pineapple in stir fry.

I get a mild reaction to both kiwi and pineapple where my tongue feels very sore if I eat too much of them (doesn't have to be a large amount to happen). It almost feels like an acidic burn. I suspect both kiwis and pineapple have a substance which cause the same reaction.

I don't know about kiwis but I think pineapples have a particular enzyme in them which could be the cause. I read that it's impossible to make natural, as opposed to synthetic, pineapple jelly as the enzyme stops the gelatine from setting.

My little girl told me she had an itchy tongue this morning after eating fresh pineapple for breakfast. I ushered her out the door and told her not to worry about it

ds2 has the same thing. Kiwi and pineapple seem to set it off. He says it is "spicy" and then his mouth is itchy, and he get little red elongated spots around his mouth.
