fish allergy?

DS1 has various allergies (but not to fish) and I am wondering if DS2 (8 months) has any - I haven't had him tested yet but have an appt. coming up.

I have given him fish in the past and haven't noticed any reaction, but last night he had some cod for supper and vomited it up in the night. I ate the same as him and I was absolutely fine, so I don't think there was anything wrong with the fish. He was fine before and after, although obviously unhappy about being sick.

He has eczema, wheezing, reflux etc. so is the typical type.

Can a fish allergy develop - i.e. have v slight reactions on first few times of consumption, then a stronger reaction?

fwiw, sil has a fish allergy.

thanks

I have eczema and I can eat fish but can't touch raw or cooked fish and if I do, my eczema starts to instantly itch and go really red and sore. It's the fastest allegen for me I think, other than perfume and smoke.

In answer to your question - yes, you can develop an allergy to something you previously ate without a problem. My DD was fine the first time she had egg. Second time she was a bit sick, third time - all hell broke lose.

However, you say he was sick during the night? I could be wrong here but as far as I am aware if you have an allergic reaction to something in the way of vomiting that the vomiting would happen pretty soon after eating it (normally 5-10 mins. makes sense as in your body wants rid of it - and getting rid some hours later won't do the trick).

He may just have had a little bug, or coughed funny or something?

HTH and hope your DS is allergy free. (My younger 2 are fine, touch wood, my eldest having about 5 allergies)

turniphead - he was definitely sick - I was downstairs and heard what sounded like him choking about an hour after he went to sleep (around 2-3 hours after eating). I heard him cough afterwards so was reassured he was still alive!
Around 2 hours later I heard him choking and being sick (my absolute worst fear in the world!). I checked on him - all his supper had been brought up.

I thought it was a bug at first, but apart from bringing up a bit of milk afterwards as well he was completely fine before and after.

This is exactly the same reaction that ds1 has to egg on the couple of occasions that he has eaten something with egg in it (eg egg pasta). Seemingly fine, goes to bed - a few hours later is violently sick, then is fine again. (ds1 is allergic to eggs). It was the similarity that made me think it might be an allegy.

I also noticed very soon after he was born that the 2 or 3 times I ate salmon he was v unhappy later on (after breastfeeding)..
