rape allergy advice please

Have just discovered that the field at the bottom of my garden has been planted with rape this year. Normally I only have to drive past a field of this, and I'm struggling to breathe, and my eyes are streaming. Am dreading the prospect of a great swathe of it so close! Also worried for my ds, also allergic, whose A level study leave is going to coincide with the flowering period.

I do realise we can keep our windows shut etc, but it's so close, and I know that's not going to work!

Has anyone been in this position before? and do they have any helpful suggestions as to what works best? Is there something we should be doing now, to prepare?

very very grateful for any advice!

thank you pixie - oh god I am so not looking forward to this. we are south facing with a conservatory and it will be a nightmare keeping everything shut. Also got dog and cats.

can I not just go to the chemist and buy over the counter antihistamines? Is there something I should ask for in particular? I don't normally bother with taking anything - and my ds takes clarityn

thanks Pixie. I asked at boots this afternoon and the pharmacist said much the same. We have to start taking antihistamines now, to build up immunity. She gave me some that are more effective than clarityn, and some eye drops. So - we'll start with that, and see how it goes, perhaps visiting the gp if it doesn't work.

I really appreciate your help, thanks!
