Switching to cows milk

Hi,
We tried switching from formula milk to cows milk when my DD was about 13/14 months. She had lots of very loose stools and nappy rash and both HV and Dr recommended going back to formula for a while. We did, and stools returned to normal (solid, nicely formed). I tried re-introducing cows milk again at almost 16 mths, and her stools have gone all loose again, and quite chunky/undigested. This change happened about 4 days or so after re-introducing the milk, so wasn't immediate. I am mixing about 1/3 formula with 2/3 cows milk. Her diet hasn't changed in any other way.

Do you think this is a normal transitional thing which we will have to live with for a few weeks or so, or is it likely that she has an intolerance? She has been having milk on her cereal everyday since about 7/8 months and also has yoghurt most days. Eats cheese, and cheese sauces.

I will try to get an appointment with HV or Dr again. Should Dr be able to do a test to confirm if she has an intolerance? I'm not fond of trial and error.

Many thanks

Formula is cows milk so it was cows milk she would have been affected when you gave her all those other things. My little one now 4 can't tolerate cows milk or products containing it and wheat was told after trial and error that the test you could have is not very reliable so they don't tend to do it. We did have a test for celiac disease which is a blood test she was a star(but she has been coming with me for my 4 week blood test since she a nine mouths old. We think her was triggered by a bug. She should grow out of them. Both things are in so much we have to reed all the labels all the time as they keep changing ingredients
