Reintroducing dairy food - any tips?

Hi all,

I am about to embark on reintroducing dairy and soya to my 16 month old.

He has been free of both as they were suspected to be contributing to his reflux. We have been given some guidelines on the phone from the dietician but I wondered if any of you have done this and if you have any tips or useful web resources that might help me?

Thanks mummies!

Lynda

I cut dairy out of my own diet while BFing my DS as it was causing his reflux. I started eating it again when he was about 9 months old, slowly at first so that I could see if he had any reaction. I then started him on yogurt from about 11 months and finally cups of milk when I weaned him at 14 months. He had no reactions by then. I think you'll probably find he's okay by 16 months. Just start slowly, probably with yoghurt first.

Hi Lynda
Actually we saw our dietician last week and have started on a 'programme'for reintroducing dairy and egg so I don't know if anything she said may be helpful .

Our situation is a bit differnt as DS is almost 2 now and had v bad eczema / allergies since 5 weeks and would come up in hives so it was always v obvious straightaway.

But we are doing...
Reintroducing foods with milk that have been processed (baked stuff etc)
Yogurt testing on skin
Cheese testing on skin
Then if okay moving onto small spoonfull of yoghurt mixed with fruit.
Then small amount of cheese (she suggested Irish chedder as its the mildest and then Babybel.)

Then if all fine we move onto milk - very small amounts starting a 0.5ml. Then 2.5ml (and then just moving up in small amounts.) Last time we did a milk challenge we didn't get further than 0.5ml!

But as my DS always comes up in hives its easy to know when to stop. But I guess if you left a day in between you woud know if its making the reflux worse.

So far we are up to eating small amounts of yoghurt so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Hope some of this is helpful!
