Neocate side effects?

Hello, my DS is now 4 months and was diagnosed with a cows milk allergy at 2 months, we finally got him on Neocate 6 weeks ago after trying soya and Nutramigen, however ever since he's been on it he wakes up every hour at night after almost beginning to sleep through. i know wind is an initial side effect and wonder if this is the cause but it has been over 6 weeks now and i'm beginning to think he may be allergic to the Neocate. He also has silent reflux and is on Zantac. Does anyone have a similar experience?

Hi There. My LO has been on Neocate since he was 5 mths (he is now 14) and had not had any problems. Take a look at the Neocate site www.neocate.co.uk/aaa_neocate/19097-neocate-versus-other-formulas.html and it explains that neocate is one of the simplest amnio acid formulas which means it is broken down into its simplest form meaning allergic reaction is very slim. Mine DS was on Nutramigen before and that made him sick but Neocate has been just fine. Could it be something else as I would be suprised if it is the Neocate? However, if you are worried and want to explore it more I would speak to the dietitian.

thanks Cokie, he has been doing some huge farts since starting Neocate and they seem to wake him up but it could be that now he's just used to waking up and me putting dummy back in his mouth which is a bit tiring every hour. it could also be reflux so am lying him on his side which seems to be working so far, last option would be to try weaning him off dummy but he has a strong pair of lungs on him so hope i can find solution before then! got an appt with dietician next week maybe weaning will help.

my youngest was crippled with tummy pains when on neocate, he's now on Nutramigen AA which has worked a treat!

that's interesting thanks Scamp. a tooth starting emerging today so it looks like its teething but could also be the reflux, hunger, the neocate or his eczema! .. i'll give it a week or so and if nothing changes will ask about Nutramigen AA.
