we certainly have pens expiring in January. As there are so many perhaps we'll get ones with a longer life this time!

Acekicker · 14/12/2009 18:58

I picked up our replacements on Saturday and insisted on checking them in the pharmacist (after having been given out of date ones in the Summer )...the ones they'd given me were the same batch as the ones they were to replace so expiring in a few weeks. The pharmacist assistant couldn't understand why I wouldn't take them and wanted ones dated at least a few months into 2010.

EldonAve · 14/12/2009 19:37

Acekicker - that is shocking!

I noticed quite by accident last month that all those we have expire at the same time (beginning of January) despite being dispensed months apart. Hopefully the new batch to replace them will give us the 18months shelf life

HAve the same problem, The damned things are RELUCTANTLY prescribed by the GP as they are very expensive. Last time I got 4 that only had 5 month's to go.

I normally put a note in my diary when I get them to know when I need to replace them. ExH... well, he doesn't even check he has the kit with him...

Mongolia · 14/12/2009 20:19

... and yes, hours also expire in January...

Mongolia · 14/12/2009 20:20

hours??? ours!

Acekicker · 14/12/2009 22:03

Mongolia - you can register the pens here and they will send text/emails when the expiry is coming up www.alk-lifeline.co.uk/expiry-alert.htm

EldonAve - I know; I was distinctly unimpressed with the pharmacy...they did give me other ones, these will expire mid 2010 I think [makes mental note to go and register the damn things].

Picked 2 up on Friday to replace the ones at school, the expiry date on them is October next year. Need to get 2 more this week to replace the ones at home, and I know the doctor is going to moan about it.

DaftApeth · 14/12/2009 22:35

Thanks for this.

Have just checked ds' and they too run out in Jan 2010, which means his school ones also run out then as I got them all together and remember thinking that the 'use by date' was the same on them all.

MetalMummy, the new batch are obviously available now then. I'm sure these latest ones lasted longer though.

I shall have to dig out the repeat prescription for them. I'm sure I've lost it put it somewhere safe.

DH got 2 new ones yesterday - expire Dec 2010
