chips? do they contain gluten?

I assume in my world you'd mean french fries, so it depends. Sometimes they fry them with things containing gluten so you'd have to ask if there's a dedicated fryer. If they're just on their own in vegetable oil with no added seasonings then it should be fine.

There are 'gluten free' chippies but they're talking about the batter!

I have trouble with chip shop chips. I assume it's because they're fried in the same oil as stuff with batter on. Batter of course is a wheat product.

As the others said, it depends what they are fried in. I could recommend you a chippy where the chips are gluten free, but you'd have to live in SLough
