Hi anybody found any mince pies or mincemeat that is peanut, nut ,eggs, sesame free (not even traces) and that is vegetarian?

We have never bothered as we don't like mincepies or christmas pudding but DD who has just started school is hearing about them and asking for them?

This is the recipe I use....

You can use vegetarian suet, omit almonds and make adjustments as you like.
These quantities make loads though - you may want to cut it right down.

200g cut mixed peel
200g raisins
25g preserved stem ginger
200g cooking apples
200g shredded suet
200g sultanas
200g currants
200g soft light brown sugar
50g chopped almonds
generous pinch each of mixed spice, ground ginger, ground cinamon
grated rind and juice of 2 lemons and 1 orange
150ml / ¼pint brandy, sherry or rum

Mince or finely chop the peel, raisins and ginger. Peel, core and grate the apples. Combine all the ingredients in a very large bowl, cover and leave to stand for 2 days in a cool place, stirring occasionally (this helps stop it fermenting later). Pot, cover and label. Store in a cool, dry place.

Makes about 1.8kg

variations, can use vegetarian suet.
Can use apple juice if you want alcohol free - but store in fridge. Alternatively can freeze.

Just to say, if you have a Waitrose near you, their mincemeat is vegetarian and free from everything but sulphites.
