Coeliac/DH and sensitivity after stomach bug

I have coeliac disease and have also had isolated bouts of DH over the years. I had food poisoning a couple of weeks ago, and am still having bottom end issues, and I have had a DH flare up on my fingers (usual places for me are fingers, knees, ears and nose).

I have been really strict about my diet since the food poisoning, even avoiding malt extract and oats which normally I can tolerate well so I am at a loss to figure out what is the cause of my symptoms.

Is there a chance that I am more sensitive after the stomach bug? Although we use separate knives for getting the butter out of the tub and spreading, and I always use a clean board/grill/wooden spoon etc for my stuff, I don't have dedicated utensils. In the past this hasn't caused me any issues.

I also cook stuff with gluten in/make normal sandwiches for the children and handle cooked pasta etc when feeding my 10 mo old DS.

It's driving me nuts as my fingers are very itchy, hot and sore and I have this morning felt the familiar tingle on my nose and ears. The last big outbreak I had before I was diagnosed I was covered from hairline to chin and very very miserable and I really don't want that to happen again

any thoughts from fellow sufferers?

Why don't you go super-strict for a couple of weeks; spearte preparation ; avoid oats etc and see how you go.

thanks wobblypig

not easy with DC's that I need to prep gluten containing foods for, but I'm trying to be as strict as possible. I haven't handled the DC's food directly since yesterday morning and it is clearing up, so I suspect it may be a direct contact thing rather than a gut sensitivity

Have you had any medications that may have caused these problems? Antibiotics do tend to give stomach upsets. Some coeliacs do react to the food ingredients that are considered safe such as glucose syrup or maltodextrin.

no nothing different in meds sadjack (why are you sad btw?); sample was clear by the time I got it to them so they didn't give me any ABs.

I've never been bothered by things like malt extract etc, although if it is heightened sensitivity, then I might be now! so I'm being really careful and got some separate chopping boards and am not using the wooden spoons for my stuff etc.

the gut issues I think are due to IBS as a result of the food poisoning; it's definately worse after drinking too much wine!
