wasp sting question please

Hi All

DD3 was stung today at nursery, her face swelled up but no breathing distress etc etc and a cool ice pack brought down 50% of the swelling. We saw the doc who was happy it was not an allergic reaction (her sister is anaphylactic/or was until the desensitization) so we are always careful.

So, is a wasp sting the same as any other allergen reaction, the first time you have little or no reaction but the second it is the real true reaction or are we in the clear?

I think that's right - I never reacted the first time - second and subsequent times I did.

Thanks Whomoved, I suspected so. Fingers crossed then its not an allergy, I just like to have all the facts x

My understanding is exactly that, initial exposure often causing minimal reaction, but triggers the body to become allergic, then next exposure is when the body goes into overdrive and releases too much hystamine. Have you looked at this website?

Yes thanks Heinz, thou many thanks for the weblink. My SDD is anaphylactic to nuts and she has never been stung so we are on high alert with DD3.

Hi yes first time I was stung on the tummy and it went purple and swollen over a large area.
2nd time on the leg same but felt throat tighten and the swelling didn't go down. Still have vague scar years later.
Haven't been stung again since then but def worse second time.
