Just thinking of our upcoming holidays and wondering if anyone has any experience of using insect repellant on children with excema?

Any recommendations?

willow recommende me alfresco (alfresco.com???) as it has all natural ingrediens...so i've ordered some...not cheap, but no nasties in it, and recommended by school of hygeine and tropical medicine.......need powerful stuff for malarial places tho! hth

Thanks sophable - I'll have a look. It's only Majorca in July but dd seems to be hugely attractive to mossies(in fact anything that bites)wherever we go!

We used the boots own brand one for babies - citronella based, no chemicals. Seems to be fine, though interestingly, have just returned from 2 months in NZ where dd1 wasn't bitten once by either mossies or sandflies (horrid things). DD2 was, and she doesn't have eczema. DH and I also got eaten alive. Could it be to do with dd1's skin? One positive benefit of eczema?!!!

Sorry, meant to say that we have used the boots one in the past. Didn't actually bother this time initially, as dd2 wasn't bothered by the bits, and dd1 didn't get bitten at all!

hi POTTY 1 - im going abroad and had the same question for my doctor, and got GREAT advice. basically - because excema kids have such sensitive skin, put a moisturiser cream on ( which you've found no reaction to - for me, its plain vaseline) THEN put the repellent ontop of that as described on the bottle... but deff put a base cream on first- so repellent not being absorbed, but the cream is instead! hope that helps..
