fucidin h cream

my dd has pretty bad excema all over her body, which clears up really well within a few days of using this. However, as soon as I stop using it, the excema returns. It says on it not to use for extended periods, so any ideas what I can do?
Am going to doctors about this on Monday, would like some ideas to put toward him if poss !

Had similar problem with ds1 using hydrocortisone. GPsaid that if it keeps returning it is not the right treatment as cream should properly cure those patches its been used on. We've moved on to Betnovate and it seems to work.

Forgot to add that different pacthes respond to diff cream. Fucidin worked well when he had allergic reaction to sun cream, Hydrocortisone shifts contact reactions to food, Betnovate works on his random discoid eczema on torso and legs- but obviously different for different sprogs

I use Cortopin (which is non prescription, just an over the counter creme, but has hydrocortisone) on my son ALL the time - just on the back of his knees.

HOwever, I need to use less of it now that I put oilatum in his bath. Oilatum is quite expensive, but the more you put in their baths the better the eczema clears up.

Fucidin H is a steroid and antibiotic cream. You usually use it if the eczema is infected.

I used to get the GP to prescribe Fucidin and steroids separately so I could increase or decrease the steroid dose as I saw fit.

The steroid in Fucidin H is pretty mild. Betnovate is a stronger steroid.

Oilatum is available on prescription MaggieBee.

My DS is similar but it clears up for a while then reappears. The doc has mentioned referring him but i haven't heard anything so i may have to go back, it seems to be getting worse not better

We have fucidin H cream to use when we need it. As Mettella said its an antibiotic and steriod cream. We use it when DS's skin is infected (red and weepy).

We have a whole arsenal of things to use depending on DS's state.

We have Protopic which seems good. Its a new type of non steroidal cream.

Most of the creams and ointments which are not your usual moisturisers/emulsifiers say not to be used every day/for extended periods.

We review DS's treatment every 6 weeks or so with the specialist nurse. We weigh up the pros and cons of prolonged use with her and tailor DS's meds depending on what his skin is doing.

Sometimes we have to use v.strong stuff for longer than ideal just to get him to a certain level. Then we reduce down to something weaker.

Do you see a dermatologist?

We use Aveeno, and within a few days his patches are cleared up. Mainly creases of arms and backs of legs.

If you haven't tried it, it's worth a go.

that's interesting Chegirl, she has only it for a few months, and it is constanly red, but not weeping. We haven't seen a dermatologist, but I think she needs to.

DS2 has Fucidin for eczema on the backs of knees and sometimes armpits. When it clears up we go back to Aveeno.

Sorry, DS3 turned laptop off and it takes ages to get it going again!

Faye I think its v.important to see a dermatologist. Even the best GPS dont know much about eczema.

Because it is so common it doesnt tend to get the attention it deserves. Its important to get on top of it as soon as you can and keep on top of it. Its very likely that your dd will grow out of it but it could take a few years. I am trying to think of the best way of putting this without sounding a bit dramatic .....

Personally I think (IME) the best way with exzema is to be pretty agressive and take no prisioners, beat it into submission before it takes too much of a hold, then have a strict treatment regime to keep it under control.

My DS has severe atopic eczema so I am coming from that angle. His condition is bad enough to get Disabilty Living Allowance for. But even with milder eczema you have to be pretty organised about the treatment.

Most important to keep skin moisturised with whatever works best for you and then treat the flare ups with steroids or anti biotics or whatever you find helpful.

I did quite a bit round the house i.e. got rid of lots of soft furnishings, toys etc. I hoover like a mad thing too!

My DS has bad eczema on face ad upper torso, tried Fucidin, just made it worse, we now use Cetraben cream twice daily and the Cetraben bath emollient too, works a treat. Tried Oilatum in bath but didnt find it worked for him.

Has just been prescribed hydocortisone cream for a really stubborn patch on his tummy and it is definately improving!
