DS suffers with bad excema every summer and I'm after your recommendations please.

Shop bought or prescribed.

He used to have bad skin all year round as a babe (he's 5 now), but it cleared and now he just has terrible flare ups in the summer months when it's hot and the suns out

TIA

Have you tried the Weleda sun cream? It works well for us but DS1's eczema is quite mild.

Avene products are v good

but mega £££

Has he tried taking an antihistamine throughout the summer? Ds does and whilst it doesn't get rid of his eczema completely it does make it more mild.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/05/2009 00:01

oooh yes, antihistamine is a good idea

Thanks for the replies.

He has antihistamine everyday, as well as slatthering on the ultra thick cream before bed/wet wrapping when it's really bad/epiderm in the bath water etc. It seems that I can get it under control but as soon as I put the sunscreen on it flares up again.

I'm going to have a look at the Avene one online and see if there are any reviews, cheers BALD

It seems to be trial and error for most people to see what is compatible with your child's skin. Lots of people like E45 but we didnt have much success with that. Nivea Factor 50 (blue bottle) has worked well for us over the last 2-3 years without making flareups worse.

Piz Buin Allergy lotion also seems not to cause any flareups for us but its only factor 20 and I like to use a very high factor on the children.
