is doublebase alright on face?

my ds has mild eczema and i use it all over his body after his nightly bath. started using it on his face too as his skin seems a bit dry. do you think that's ok? it's mainly made from paraffin and that doesn't really sound like something you'd want to plaster over your dc's skin...but it's on prescription therefore free unlike lovely but expensive weleda and lush creams that also do good job of moisterising

all 3 of mine have had eczema and i have used doublebase on face with no probs but eumobase (cream not the steriod one) is much better than doublebase. most of the moisturising creams have a paraffin base like vaseline and ive been putting that on my face for about 20 years!

Any cream or lotion will be fine, just not steroids unless prescribed specifically and never a steroid stronger than Eumovate.

Whatever you put on the face, make sure they are not really hot or a normal cream will jut infuriate it even more making it agony! In these instances you are far better off not putting anything on it, unless a steroid.
I personally find that a thicker cream is bbetter on the face rather than a lotion, You could try simply Diprobase, Doublebase we found okay, Hydramol has been okay and now currently using Dermol 500/600 all over.

The GP prescribed double base for me to use on dry skin on DT2's face - he was about 4 months old at the time. Have had no probs and found it cleared up the dryness really well.

Yes, it is absolutely fine. The key with all emollients is 'thinly, quickly, frequently' because, with eczema, you want to keep the moisture IN the skin and the heat out. Often we smear heavy layers of cream on children but just a thin layer, applied very quickly and a few times a day will work exceptionally well.
