My little boy has suffered for 5 years with terrible eczema eventually ending up in hospital, where he was finally given this SPECIFIC IGE blood test, they don't like to do it for some reason but demand it. He was diagnosed allergic to milk, nuts and egg and after 8 weeks off these is almost 100% clear, with no creaming, sleepless nights etc. I would STRONGLY advise anyone struggling with eczema to get this test done, it has changed our lives. I'm just angry that we had to go through SO much grief to get there and anxious that other parents in the same situation have this information.

wow! Did your doc refer you?? my little boy has nasty eczema, hav to change his sheets most days because of blood on them The only advice I seem to get from my GP is 'try an emollient'. Wow mr gp sir, what a fantastic suggestion!!!

FranAnn, so pleased to hear your news. I had horrible eczema as a kid and was finally diagnosed with dairy and citrus allergy aged 10. As with your son, my eczema cleared up within weeks once these were cut out of my diet (can eat both now).

dancingmummy - emollients help with the symptoms of eczema, not the cause. I would urge you, and others like you, to push for further testing (first step is to get a referral to an allergy clinic). If it is not a food allergy then OK, you tried but if it is the effects of cutting it out can be life-changing.
