Cows milk allergy

There are probably hundreds of threads about this but I just wanted to explain my case see if anyone has anything similar.

My DD 13 months in the last few weeks has been switched totally to full cream cows milk and formular stopped. Aptamil she was fine on. But for the first three days on cows milk, she had constipation since then she has had diarrhoea since. She is constantly looking for being picked up and whiney. Has always been a great sleeper at night and now wakes screaming thru the night. Last night I have changed her nappy ten times since 11pm last night because of diarrhoea. I realise possibly it is a bug it just seems strange that all this has happened since the switch.

I am at a loss about what to do. Today I am trying no milk at all and see what happens. Has anyone else experienced anything like this.

Sounds like an intolerance.

Maybe return to Aptimil for a while and see if the problems stop, then you will know it is the dairy.

Yes sounds like an intolerance.

My DD (14mths) was exactly the same.

I feel for you and your LO its horrid

Thank you. It kind of makes me feel better in a strange kind of way IYSWIM? Have bought some ready made aptamil for a few nights before I buy a whole tin again. Guess I should take her to the GP though? Or just investigate myself first?

Personally I would go to GP and see what they say...

Having a bad day as my 3yr old DS gave DD some chocolate mousse yesterday so we have had poos galore!!

Funnily enough my DD was ok with aptamil/cow & gate too but got bad when I weaned her and gave her yogurts etc...

please try not to jump to conclusions too quickly. It might well be an intolerance (I would say it is not an allergy as the symptoms would be different), but also it might just be the change. it can take some children a while to get used to the difference in digesting cows milk as opposed to formula.

you could try the lactose-free milk (found in the fresh milk aisle). if it is anything I would say it is lactose causing the problem

it's unlikely to be a cow's milk allergy because if it was then she would noit have been able to tolerate formula either.
ditto the lactose, it's actually very, very rare for a small child to have a lactose allergy/intolerance- it would mean an inability to process any milk, including breastmilk and formula and a need for a totally synthesised product such as neocate instead.

what I would imagine is that her tummy just isn't used to the full-fat cow's milk that you have replaced the formula with.
ds1 had a similar reaction when we switched.

we went back to formula, and then gradually introduced the cow's milk and he has been absolutely fine since.

TBH DD seemed ok on aptamil or cow & gate and I think it was because it has got added priobiotics as I changed her to another brand (hipp organic I think...) and she was constipated straight away
