I have such a dry, itchy scalp. I would be so grateful if anyone could recommend a good shampoo and conditioner as I feel the one I am using is just irritating my scalp even more.
Thanksx

T-Gel is expensive but worth it.

Oilatum scalp treatment shampoo worked really well for my DD. Expensive but effective.

Coal Tar shampoo is really good and soothing for the itch, but it smells foul! very good though

gscrym · 23/04/2005 11:56

Tea Tree works for me.

Simple Baby shampoo is brilliant, my DH had a very dry scalp, has suffered for years, he tried all mentioned below & nothing worked.
We discovered Simple Baby when we had twins, both with sensitive skin and excema.
IT is expensive £3 a bottle, and the only place i can find that sell it, is Lloyds chemist.

Vosene, it's wonderful stuff

Hulababy · 23/04/2005 12:17

I have psorasis of the scalp and have tried loads of stuff on my hair - over the counter, prescribed and off the shelf stuff. Last summer I fouf Simple worked really well at maintaining it (not clearing it up, but not letting it get any worse). However I noticed after 3 or 4 months it stopped working so well. I am now using T Gel shampoo which is pretty good - still not clearning it up though.

If you have a loval home bargains you can pick t Gel up (and Simple) much cheaper.

I used to have real problems with my scalp and used some coal tar stuff in a brown bottle (I forget the name). Stinks but works a treat.

Polytar!

try head and shoulders as well BH i find its realy invigorating, gets rid of any itchiness and makes my hair really lovely and shiny

There's more than one version of TGel, BH, and you want the most expensive one (of course ) - it says

Therapeutic Shampoo
effective treatment for
scalp psoriasis
seborrhoeic dermatitis (dry, itching scalp)
dandruff

(copy typing off bottle, I have same prob!)

You need to use it twice at a time and leave it on for "several minutes" both times; it really does work. (It's very gloopy though and quite a bit of it falls off your hands, making it even more expensive; I decant some into an empty bottle and dilute it a little bit to make it more controllable.) (Hey, something else I am anal about!)

My hair is grey and the shampoo (dark brown) makes it go a bit yellow so my hairdresser recommends using TGel and one of those clarifying (?) shampoos alternately.

Check out the Juice Master - read his books. he was covered with psorisis for years and cured himself by going on a juice-only diet and completely changing the way he ate. worth a try!

I use a natural shampoo and conditioner which helps all hair and scalp problems, based on aloe vera, which even comes with a 60 day money back guarantee, you can't get better than that. Contact me for more details - [email protected]

MumHadEnough · 27/05/2009 22:48

If the T gel doesn't work Blossomhill or stops working, try Nizoral. You can only get it from a pharmacy though.

I use Aveda Shampure shampoo and also their conditioner. Very pricey. But it seems to keep my scalp nice. I still get the odd flakes now and then - but usually if I've been too busy to wash my hair (well I always come last to the kids/ house) or overdone hair product.

Shampure comes in little bottles for about £8.00 each. If you like them you can get the larger bottles which are better value. I know it's pricey but it's my one treat!
