Mosquite bites - strong reaction

DD (5) has sensitive skin and has had mild excema when she was a baby (just behind legs & on arms). She has no other allergies.

She has ver strong reactions to mosquito bites - last year her ankle swelled up & went purple and stayed like that after 2 bites. She often gets wheals and large lumps.

Will she grow out of it after being bitten more or should I protect her from being bittn. I have started using a natural eucalyptus spray but have also seen an insect repellent fabric called Arnywear & was wondering whether to buy some.

ANyone got any experience of this

Only in that i am v. allergic to mozzie bites; I get v. large bumps, a blister where the bite was and v. bad swelling It doesnt seem to improve with more bites so i would say try and prevent the bites.

Are you abroad?? Is she likely to be bitten much

I have heard that vitamin B12 is meant to help stop you being bitten, as is eating marmitte...not sure if these will help or even suitable for 5 yr old. Maybe speak to a dr?? Antihistamaine seems to help with the itchimess of these bites for me but not the swelling.

I get awful reactions as well. Really severe swelling and itching, nearly had to go to hospital whilst on holiday in France.

My experience is that it has got worse as I have got older (sorry)

I've heard the vitamin B1 thing too - am definitely going to try it before we go away this year.

Will see if I can find a link...

Sadly we aren't abroad - just in the SE but the mozzies seem very hardy here.

I have given her piriton on some occasions. Thanks for replies.
