My son has had severe chest pain, and was sent home from school on tuesday.
William has a few allergies, recently had a bad bout of a reaction before christmas.
He is not asthmatic , but does have an inhaler to use as part of his allergy treatment plan.

After going to GP, we did the pain relief thing four hourly for 2 days.
No improvement, lots of missed sleep.
So went back.
Turns out he has a viral infection of the cartiliage between his ribs.
So is now on steriods.

Steriods always have unpleasent side effects for him, so we have to keep him topped up with gaviscon etc , and pain relief ( calpol)

we are keeping a peak flow diary as well.

Does anyone have any info on this?

have never come across this before!

I had that (at 36) - could only take very short breaths as it hurt to take deeper ones, so kept hyperventilating and was worrying I had asthma or something.

The told me it was that sort of viral infection and just told me to take ibuprofen - it went after a few days but does flare up from time to time. I think this was 3 years ago and the GP said there was a lot of it about
