11 week old ds with rash - can anyone help please?

Ds's rash is getting a lot worse since yesterday. It's behind his elbows, knees, armpits, back, scalp and forehead - a spotty red sort of rash, raised from the skin. It does seem to be irritating him - he's trying to scratch at it, and has been crying more then usual. For the last week or so I've been using aveeno cream but it's not helping, as I said, since yesterday it's worse. I've also been using a bath oil in the water - balneum - and only bathing him every three days. I can't get a doctor's appointment for today, but if he's still bothered by the rash tomorrow I can pay to see a private GP.

Any ideas and advice please? I'm a bit worried about it.

He's breastfed if that's relevant.

sounds like eczema to me from the locations you have given. I would take him to a locum to be checked out, does he have a temprature.

dont put anything in he water you are bathing him in until you have seen a GP

cocolepew · 02/01/2009 14:57

Could you wait and phone the out of hours DR?

belgo · 02/01/2009 15:00

no he doesn't have a temperature. I haven't used any cream on him today, and haven't bather him either.

It does sound like eczema doesn't it? But the clinic doctor we saw a few weeks ago said it wasn't eczema, just baby acne, but it is worse then than.

We can see a private doctor tomorrow.

phone your gp and take the next available appointment, it does sound like eczema and if he doesn't have a temp and is feeding then he can probably wait. I would probably not use the oil in the bath: he might be allergic to it

yes he's feeding fine, I just feel like I must be doing something wrong as a few days ago he just had dry skin and a few small patchs; now it's a lot worse.

I've eaten spicy food in the last too days that I never normally eat - could that be affecting him?

i would say if it is dry....just pure vaseline to keep it hydrated iykwim...there is nothing in vaseline really so he shouldnt have a reaction to that? ...hope he is ok

ok thanks

How is he today?

Sounds a bit like my ds3, 13 weeks, has a raised red rash on his face and neck (like acne) - but its dry as well and has started scaling and cracking/bleeding in places. I get eczema and it doesn't really look like that. I've got a drs appt next week for him for something else, if I get any ideas from the GP I'll post. Ps we've tried Oilatum cream and its definitely made it less scaly, but still very sore. Hope your ds is feeling better soon.

thanks he's fine today, the rash is no worse, and I've calmed down a bit. I think I'm far more bothered by it then he is!I've got a GP appointment on monday.

dreaming- my ds's rash sounds exactly the same.
