Nutramigen- safe for vegetarians?

I was wondering if anyone knows if nutramigen is safe for vegetarians?

As far as I know it is a hydrolysed formula meaning it is derived from cows milk but the proteins are broken down enough for allergic babies to digest them. So sounds basically vegetarian but I don't know whether there are any additives that might be of concern to a strict veggie.

apparently not for much longer as they're adding fish oils to it or something.

read it on another thread

It is a shame if nutramigen is having fish oils added, my DS was allergic to fish products in some formulas (as well as cows milk products) He was given some tops ups of formula, particularly when ill in hospital, and ended up on Nutramigen due to extreme reactions.

BUT, and this may be contraversial, surely your babys health is more important than your vegetarian principles? I speak as a vegetarian of 20 plus years and I know that if my DC had such poor tolerances/bad reactions that Nutramigen was all they could cope with I'd let them continue to have it despite the addition of fish. (Unless, like my DS, that would also cause a reaction.)

"safe"?

but there are lactose free formulas that don't contain fish oils I believe. again, this is just from reading a thread on here the other day. but neocate was mentioned as one alternative.

it doesn't have to be one or the other.

you could just breastfeed! lol (this is not a dig at those of you already using formula btw, just a suggestion for the OP in case her baby is yet to be born)
