I've always used cloth wipes with a spray bottle of water that I take out with me, I use cloth nappies so just bung all the wipes in with them but if you had a few you could just stick them in with any wash. You wouldn't be using any chemicals on the skin then. We have used them for 20 months now, when go on holiday I use Bounty kitchen roll and spray water on that, still works out cheaper than most baby wipes as one towel can make two wipes.
