i want to get ds tested for a nut allergy. his dad has a nut allergy so i have never given him nuts but i feel it is a shame to ban him from nuts for the rest of his life if he might not actually be allergic. can you get tested without actually having had a rection yet? if so how do i go about it?

HI, my son has a nut allergy and went for his anual check up 2 weeks ago and a friend of mine had exactly the same question as you and asked me to find out at St Thomas' when we went for the check up. I did ask and was told that in order to get tested you have to insist with your GP that you want to get your son tested and keep insisiting until they give in !! Hope this helps. We found out by accident, ds helped himself to a nut before I could stop him and we found out very quickly that he was definatley allergic to nuts.

my sister gave him kinder bueno a few weeks ago without realising it had nuts in it and he did come up with a bit of a rash not long after but he'd also cut his face with a razor a few days before so wasn't sure if it was just that area on his face being red because of that iyswim.

I would go to your GP and tell them he had a bar with nuts in and that he reacted with a rash on his face and I am sure they will refer you - good luck..

He had skin tests - they take a sample of whatever they are testing for in a liquid form and prick the skin with a needle so it goes into the skin. We wait 5 mins to see the reaction, because its such a small amount the reaction is small but there. They then measure the size of the lump that appears to determine how allergic he is. The main one for him is cashew nuts and that was a huge lump.

They tested him for lots of nuts as well as trees, milk, eggs, dogs, cats etc etc and he was allergic to most and was very itchy but they gave him antihistamine aferwards and the reatction went down quickly.
