we are still discussing the possibility of later on getting a dog, as dh wants one, and dd1 would like a small dog as well, which is a step forward in her dog phobia. dd1 is allergic to cats, but am unsure if the same is true of dogs. before we go any further with getting a dog, i would like to get her allergy tested. with dog allergies, is it the fur or the salvia/dander thats the problem?

depends on where you go and what testing equipment they have.
my clinic was £40 standard full test, £20 short test, kids under 8 were free, kids between 8 and 15 were £10. when we got our new super duper machine in that tested 5000 substances, prices went up a bit but is was far more accurate. in london though, the same testing was at least 50% higher.

look here for your nearest health food shop and give them a call to see if they do these tests. if they don't they will often have someoen they reccommend in the area

Would it not be easier to go to a friend's house that has a dog?

it would but if there is an allergy and it is bad, then the child would suffer far more and possibly be quite ill, testing uses very small amounts if at all and rarely do the clients come into direct contact with the allergen whereas being in the same room could be very damaging if there is a problem say it causes a type of asthma and the child goes into an attack and struggles to breathe?

depends how reliable you want it to be. A lot of so called tests are rubbish.
