Washing Detergent advice please....

My son is being treated for Impatigo thought to have been caught from his eczema. It has still not cleared up and now the doc is unsure what is actually is. I have just realised that about 7 weeks ago I changed my washing powder to the Fairy Non Bio liquid I am now wondering if this is what is causing the rash as it is everywhere but under his nappy. I have picked up some surclean to try but wondered if anyone has tried the Ecoballs. I'm thinking it may be worth a try for his skin but worried they aren't going to clean his clothes that get covered in the usual baby mess. Any advice ladies?

we used ecoballs for two years until they killed our washing machine! To be honest it was operator eror, dp when refilling the balls didn't remove the worn out old ones and they got smaller and smaller and started to come out of the balls and killed some essential microchip. now we use ecover

My DS has quite sensitive skin, although not really eczema and I did use eco balls for a while and found them good at first but they soon stopped working so well. I have also used ecover in the past. I've found with my DS that it's a matter of trial and error, some washing liquids make him itch and others don't.

have you tried putting the washing on for an extra rinse? the tests on which often rate the rinse cycles as not fantastic even on best buy machines they are only average. I out everything on an extra rinse or we end up shredding ourselves with the itching.

I've been using eco balls for about 2 years I think and I find them really good. The only things I find I need to treat are tomato type stains but they generally come out by slinging a scoop of borax in the wash and putting them in with towels or work shirts etc that go on at 40 instead of 30.

My DS used to react to 'expensive' washing powders (persil etc). Now I use Tesco's own and have never had a problem. It is less scented than the other types - maybe it's the perfume that causes the reaction?

Try using a washing liquid rather than powder - they are supposed to wash out better than powders. Also rinse all his clothes twice - most washing machine reviews in the Which reports have only ok / or crap rinse cycles. I have never seen one yet with an excellent and frequently they suggest adding an extra rinse to the wash cycle.
