Anti allergy bedding?

Hi,

We are pretty sure my 3.5 year old son has asthma (and the respiratory nurse is pretty sure too although hasn't formally diagnosed) so I am trying to start keeping house accordingly! Blimey, it is a lot of extra work and I am not sure how to do some of it with two little ones running around. Anyway... am quite lazy so will just have to get over that.

I'm looking for anti-allergy bedding (mattress cover, duvet cover. pillow covers) and wonder if anyone else has any recommendations? Also, think he probably still needs a waterproof mattress cover - where will this go?

What makes you think its asthma? Just curious

Oh, a history of asthma and excema in the family plus persistent coughing and chestiness since about 9 months old, regular bouts of wheezing with exercise, mild excema, cat allergy, etc. I'm not sure if I am going to go the dust-mite exclusion route but it is worth knowing where to get the stuff, I think!

I have a dust mite allergy (that came on when I was pg with ds2 and never went away!)that improved overnight when I bought anti allergen quilt, and pillows. I found a normal bed protector is as good as the anti allergen ones - the aa ones tend to have a waterproof fabric type backing which I wasn't keen on sleeping on.
I got my bedding from tkmaxx, they don't always stock the sizes and types you want, but when you find it, its always really good prices.
For covers I always get 100% cotton duvet covers and pillowcases and wash them at 60 deg.
If the child still needs a waterproof mattress cover then this will act as an anti-allergen barrier on the mattress.
Are you sure the child is not just allergic to the cat?

Hi, thanks for the tip about TKMaxx! Pretty sure it is not just a cat allergy as the cat lives next door...he had a bad reaction after spending a couple of hours there for the first time. HAsn't been in contact with cats since but still gets wheezy after exercise and so on. We are treating him homeopathically with some success but have an inhaler on hand!

Have found some at Wilkinson - a mattress cover for £8 and a pair of pillow covers for £6. LEt's see how they do.
