Lactose Intolerance toddler

looking for advice on a potential lactose intolerance. My 2 year old had a tummy bug in aug, wasn’t a particularly bad one but everyone in the house had either vomiting and D , son in question vomited once and had loose stool. He’s stool never firmed up after the bug so after a couple of months I took him to the drs. They said it was post infection thing and to remove irritants like lactose and wheat. Removed lactose and was delighted when after 24 hours he had his first solid poo in approx 5 months. However the next poo he had was sloppy again. And a month into removing lactose we are in the same position with sometimes very sloppy poos and then occasionally a poo that is more solid. During this month of removing lactose there has been occasions where he has lactose and I do think he reacts to that and his poos are worse, however even when I feel certain he hasn’t had lactose his poos are still not how they should be . Any advice or experience in lactose intolerance or a post infection gut problem would really be welcome! Thanks all

Keep a food diary for him?

It might be he reacts to lactose and something else.

I’m lactose intolerant. If I have lactose, I generally have side effects for about two weeks. Remove lactose completely (there are plenty of other options) and see how he goes.

Do you double check everything he's eating? You need to look for whey, casein, all sorts. We got caught out by ham, tomato ketchup, salt & vinegar crisps and antibiotics for example!
