Rash after tomato?

My DS is 12 months and I've noticed he gets a red blotchy rash around his face when eating spag bol. He has pasta and cheese regularly. So it must be tomato.

Does this sound like a true allergy or a contact rash if anyone has any experience? He does eat pasta made with tomato puree , pin wheels and pizza all made with puree with no bother . It seems to be the passata.

I'll call the GP but was looking for any experience, hoping it's just a contact rash. As my other son had an anaphylaxis reaction to egg at 18 months so was hoping to avoid any more allergies!

It’s not likely to be a true allergy. Tomato is high in histamine so can provoke a mimic allergic response.

Yes, as pp said, this is okay and as long as face is wiped after, no cause for concern.

My DD has an intolerance to some raw fruit including tomatoes but can eat them cooked.

It’s a very common sensitivity as are strawberries and pineapple. I’m sensitive to pineapple if it touches my face ie around my lips but if I pop a piece straight into my mouth then I’m fine

This could be an intolerance.
Can be certain types of tomato sauces - where some brands are ok and others not. Some have more citric acid than others too which could be the problem.
Could also include oranges and too many kiwis.
Check the tongue regularly too - Google geographical tongue. It’s like the citric acid burns patches on the tongue. Also can experience hives and maybe cold sores (if the cold sore virus is in your family)
