Not sure if am on right subject matterbut here goes;-

Have heard that Vitamin B1 stops mosquitos/midges/noseeums biting. Something to do with the odour that permeates through your pores after taking vitB1.

Also heard that garlic capsules do the same thing but didn't fancy stinking of garlic all holiday!

Has anyone taken it and what dose? Does it work?

Am desperate!!!! Always get eaten alive!

TIA

Worked for me!! Never even knew that it had that affect, was taking it for something else and then didn't get bitten at all on holiday. Then took it for safari holiday in Africa and think I got bitten once in the whole time we were there. (Usually get badly bitten.) nThink you nedd to take it for a bit before you leave though.

Just found this from here
"Some studies suggest that taking thiamine (vitamin B1) 25mg to 50 mg three times per day is effective in reducing mosquito bites. This safe vitamin apparently produces a skin odor that is not detectable by humans, but is disagreeable to pregnant mosquitoes (Pediatric Clinics of North America, 16:191, 1969). It seems to be especially effective for those people with large allergic reactions. Thiamine takes about 2 weeks before the odor fully saturates the skin. Garlic may work in the same way (except, of course, the odor is detectable by humans), but I have seen no scientific studies supporting this."
