Non-IgE allergy? Trapped gas / discomfort & GP not helping – advice please

Hi all,

Looking for some advice or shared experiences as I’m feeling really stuck and worried about my little boy 1y0

My son has a suspected non-IgE allergy (not properly confirmed). We cut out dairy and he did seem a bit better for a while, but now he seems to have a lot of trapped gas again. He gets really uncomfortable and fidgety, looks like he’s in pain, and struggles to settle, especially at night.

We’ve spoken to the GP multiple times and they haven’t been very helpful – they’ve just prescribed omeprazole, which hasn’t made any difference, and I really don’t want to keep giving medicine for the sake of it when it doesn’t seem to help. I feel like we’re going round in circles with no proper plan.

Has anyone had similar with non-IgE allergies / intolerances and gut symptoms like gas, discomfort, crying after feeds or meals, etc?

  • Did you find other triggers beyond dairy (soya, egg, wheat, etc.)?
  • Did you end up seeing a paediatric allergist, gastroenterologist or dietitian, and was that more helpful than the GP?
  • Any tips on keeping a food/symptom diary and what patterns to look for?
  • Anything that actually helped with trapped wind/discomfort day to day?

Thank you.
