I think I may be coeliac

I know how ridiculous that sounds from ana dult but both my dd's are coeliacs, my mum is currently being tested AND i THINK I AM TOO.
sorry for the caps.
I am always tired no matter how much sleep I get, my stomach and bowel constantly hurt, are bloated, to the point where i have actually been admitted to hospital in the past, eventually let out with the diagnosis of non specific pain. I often had days of work due to stomach pains before i had dd's.
I have been awake a lot at night this last week and my bowel has been killing me.
I am also on prozac for depression. I am usually constipated but occasionally have diarehea (sp?).
I am not underweight. and actually seem to have trouble losing weight.
What do you think? I am only really familiar with coeliacs in children.

Its worth getting tested - the picture of CD in adults (and most people are diagnosed as adults now)is very different to that in childhood.

Often adult undiagnosed coeliacs are of normal weight or overweight (your body starts holding onto fat stores due to poor absorption) and have constipation due to bowel damage. There does seem to be a relationship to depression too.

Go to your GP and ask for a referral to get biopsied - its the only way to know

dd's are nopt having biopsies as doctor said that it was so obvious with the chantge in diet that there was no need. I have eaten no gluten today, i have been trying for a while but I crave bread.

And the craving thing is very typical - I was a complete pasta fiend. I was diagnosed aged 25 btw

I am fine if I don't eat any bread but once i do I can't stop, I could quite easily eat half a loaf. Is the recovery as quick in adults, I remember it was only days till dd improved and I can't cope with being this tired any more?

I felt better in terms of tummy cramps & energy within a few days, but a few months later I realised I'd had another 'leap forward' in terms of how well I felt.

Actually being diagnosed was the most wonderful thing that happened to me - I thought I was just a lazy hyphochondriac - couldn't understand why I always felt so crap. Then gave up gluten and hello to the energy. I used to have cravings too - still do sometimes. Salute is the best brand of GF pasta in my book. And my favourite bread is one you buy ready-to-make (just add water, mix & bake) from lakeland. It tastes totally different to the ones you buy at supermarket or get on prescription. Mostly I try to stick to a naturally GF diet though - and it's best to be strict in the beginning.

After 2 weeks of being gf, I was pain free - something that 4 years on strong painkillers hadn't done. After 6 months my mum commented as I casually ran to catch her up that she hadn't seen me run for 5 years.

So not days, but def weeks

Why not just give it a try? Being GF isn't hard to achieve, got to be worth a shot just to see what happens. You can see results in a few days as the others have said.

No, you mustn't cut gluten out of your diet until you have been tested. If you go gf and start to feel better you will have to make yourself ill again otherwise you could get a false negative result.
If you have coeliac disease in the family then you have a 1 in 10 chance of having it too so go and see your GP and get a test, as soon as you have had the biopsy you can cut out gluten even before you get the result.
