I don't, but there must be others given that the EU are considering adding it in to the list of the current 14 food allergens that must be picked out on a food label, as a result of a clinical study published over the summer.

I think the others were goats milk, buckwheat and possibly bee products, but I cant remember exactly (kiwi. Maybe kiwi was one of them).

Is it a new allergy?

I discovered it by chance eighteen years ago... I'm mid sixties now.
I've had 4 episodes in those years.
Just looking for others experiences.
Thanks

I’m allergic to pine nuts (and a host of other things unfortunately). I didn’t realise it was an uncommon one tbh. What would you like to know?

TheFunDog · 30/09/2025 12:10

I just wanted to know that I'm not alone lol.
How do they affect you?

It's called pine nut syndrome, my nephew has it.

Zhu · 30/09/2025 15:53

Initially with an itchy mouth and raised welts inside and outside my mouth, swelling lips, racing heart, sometimes vomiting. Interesting that it’s being added to the list of allergens. Is it not covered by “may contain nuts”? I thought it was just another nut. I’m allergic to a few tree nuts, but also sesame seeds and poppy seeds.

TheFunDog · 02/10/2025 21:49

Hi Zhu.. It's a kernel not a nut, sometimes listed as a tree nut.
Do you carry an epipen?
I carry 2 and antihistamine tablets.
My bp drops so low i collapse.. It's not very nice...

I did not know that. I also have a dip in blood pressure. I’m allergic to a lot of seeds - sesame, poppy, sunflower and a few others. I wonder if they count as kernels too? I am also allergic to a lot of tree nuts, so hadn’t even wondered if a pine nut was a nut or not. How interesting. I would love to know what it is about them that my body finds so threatening!

I work with children. I once acquired some big pine cones so thought I had better check for allergy risks. The hospital website I looked on said "for the purpose of allergies the should be treated as seeds."

TheFunDog · 04/10/2025 18:55

A few years ago I went to the immunology clinic at the hospital... The doctor had to go out and buy a packet of pine nuts so she could test me... Didn't need much testing!!

DS does. Was diagnosed 15yrs ago after a near miss with pesto sauce.
He carries epi-pens but so far never needed them <<touches wood>>. Eating out is still a pain as we're ruthless with checking every time but nandos and mcdonalds are pretty safe.
I hope they're added to the ingredients list.

There are currently 14 allergens on the list with 4 about to be added including pine nuts.
goat's/sheep's milk, buckwheat, peas and lentils, and pine nuts.

I agree how difficult it can be eating out. I hate when pubs want me to click on their Ipads!!

Good luck on your Ds staying clear of pine nuts.

Xx
