CMPA Symptoms Returning?

Hey just looking to see if anyone has experienced similar.

My little girl from around 4 weeks old was switched to prescription formula due to CMPA. She had two different formulas & finally settled on Alfamino - all symptoms cleared within around a week on this one - rash, screaming in pain, sneezing etc. She is also on omeprazole for silent reflux.

Only issues we had on alfamino was she really wasn’t fussed about bottles, woukd take around 4oz max and never increased her bottle size. She is small for her age and this was put down to CMPA originally we were told we would likely see a good weight gain when we switched but 3 months later she is still pretty small however this may just be her body make up and not something I’m overly concerned about.

At 4 months we begun reintroducing normal formula to see if she had a reaction. We done the 1 bottle a day / replacing 1 scoop then 2 scoops the next day etc. She was totally fine so at the end we decided instead of moving straight to all bottles normal formula we introduced 2 full bottles a day then 3 until she was upto full bottles per day so this went on for almost 2 weeks as I was cautious. She is still on her omeprazole.

She was really enjoying her bottles and increased the intake by 1oz you could tell she was enjoying the taste and didn’t seem in pain!

However we have now been around 2 weeks on full normal forumla bottles and she has gone from pooping daily to being really badly constipated not pooping for 4 days. I have tried the usual cooled boiled water etc to help. She has also been a lot more unsettled in herself however may be due to the constipation, I’m just wondering if she’s now taking a reaction? But would have thought it would have been way before now, she did manage to poop and there was some blood & mucus however unsure if this is due to her straining.

I am now at a bit of a loss whether to continue on the normal formula and give it another week or switch to another brand or comfort forumla? Or think she has CMPA symptoms again? She’s no rash or anything else just seems sore. She currently on cow & gate - looking to possibly switch too HIPP if we were going too however I’m really not sure.

Anyone any experiance?

That does sound like a reaction. My baby also has CMPA although not on formula. Why did you re-introduce formula at 4 months? I'm breastfeeding and cut dairy out at 8 weeks but paedetrician advised to not even re-introduce dairy in my own diet until baby was 6 months.

If under advice of a dietician, I'd go back to them for more advice.

Also, I was told that the dairy causes their gut to inflame and the protein stays in their body for up to 6 weeks so builds and builds. Which is why you don't get a reaction right away but they can get a lot worse suddenly and then it takes a long while to get the dairy out and inflammation settled so even when you go back to alfamino, you won't see a sudden improvement.

The inflammation can also damage their gut long term so you're better off letting her heal now and be strict about no dairy so you can re-introduce it when older.
