Tip for sinus congestion

I had a summer cold around 4 weeks ago and all the symptoms have gone except I am still extremely congested in my sinuses. By congested I don’t mean phelmy just the back of my nose and throat feel really dry, nostrils feel swollen and have a heavy feeling in my head. Any suggestions? - I have tried nasal spray which does work but don’t want to keep using as I know it can be bad

I would try:

  • reducing dairy and gluten for a while (may help reduce mucus production)
  • using a neti pot
  • steam inhalations as regularly as possible
  • Solpadeine for the pain
  • avoid perfumed products generally
  • sinus massage - look it up online but you can get (some) relief by gently massaging your face, I usually do this with a very light face cream after a warm shower or a steam inhalation

No dairy and a lot of spicy food to make my nose run.

Sudafed decongestant tablets (blue writing on the box) cleared my son's sinuses recently.

Sinus rinsing. You’ll know how desperate you are as to whether you try it.

Ideally after steaming your head.

Get a Neti pot & use it regularly.

ENT couldn’t help me with my long term sinus issues. Neti pot sorted everything out. Now I only use it post cold. If I don’t I will end up with a sinus infection that takes antibiotics to sort out.
