Diet for suspected IBS

I’ve got what we suspect is IBS. Having a colonoscopy to rule out anything sinister, but in the meantime have been trying to follow a low FODMAP diet. And it’s so bloody hard! Cutting out caffeine was easy but I do love a fruit tea and they all have apple in…
Anyone else in the same position, I would love to hear any tips

I've had IBS symptoms for years. Never been diagnosed by Dr. Don't think I could do a FOODMAP diet. Been thinking of getting an intolerance blood test. I know a few people who have done this. I have started taking fibrecalm that has helped. My DD swears by kerfir.

Aye it’s hard but the ‘hard core’ part of the low FODMAP diet is supposed to be temporary not permanent!

Some people do two weeks, and then start gradually reintroducing foods, to see if they cause an issue or not. You could try apple as your first ‘reintroduction’? You may be ok, with any luck.

I did 8 weeks of ‘hardcore’ because I was very ill indeed, and it really helped, so tbh it didn’t feel like it was that much of a privation to stick at it. There’s a substitute for everything somewhere, or you can play around with inventing one. (I made some very strange white rice dishes!)

Sometimes I still have a very low FODMAP day if I’m feeling uncomfortable. It’s been really valuable to learn how to do it.

I’m clinging to the fact that it is temporary! Apple is definitely going to be my first try, I love my herbal and fruit teas and really miss them. Some aspects like caffeine free I’m ok with and will probably stay with that. Glad it helped you.
