My 14 week old has been diagnosed with suspected cows milk protein allergy (/dairy intolerance). Symptoms are bloated tummy, gassy, HECTIC screaming (mostly around feed time), reflux, mucus in poo. Had one case of specks of blood in poo but that has been a one-off.

He’s always been combi fed since 2 days old (he was born small birthweight so we were keen to ensure he was well fed).Hes mostly breastfed with ~1 formula feed per day.

Have seen a paediatrician and I’ve been told to cut out dairy, soy and lower egg intake in my diet. I’ve been off dairy 5.5 weeks now. On formula we’ve tried Aptamil Pepti 1 —> Neocate —> Alfamino. He hated the Neocate and doesn’t seem to mind the Alfamino too much, when mixed with Aptamil pepti (fading in). However he only takes v small amounts of any Alfamino/AP mix we put in front of him and so we’re struggling to know what to do; if we put more AP in there it will exacerbate his CMPA but if we put more Alf in there he might reject the bottle altogether because of the taste.

To add stress, he’s also v unpredictable on taking my breast and he doesn’t like to feed at all in public which means he need a bottle of something if I am leave the house at all. The result of this is that my supply is all over the shop and not consistent

We are so desperate. He is clearly in pain and so difficult to care for when he’s not feeding well. I’m also worried if he skips feeds as he’s not a big baby as it is. What can we do?

Note: he’s also on omeprazole for reflux. I think it helps but obvi doesn’t resolve the bloated/painful tummy

My second had CMPA and also soya, wheat, gluten. Just keep going back to the GP til you crack it and he’s more comfortable. Huge hand hold, its so bloody tough for everyone. You’ll navigate through it though and look back in awe at your strength. Xx

Update - we’ve had 2 successful bottle feeds with 100% Alfamino, both dream feeds. Going to keep doing dream feeds during the 10pm feed and try and introduce a day feed at a weekend where hubby and I are together. Will post any update
