penicillin allergy/intolerance?

Hi mumsnet allergy board. My oldest, adult son (22) had a reaction last time he took penicillin. He went to A&E where they declined to diagnose as he was stable by that point.
He's off to work abroad for a while and gets recurrent infections requiring antibiotics. I don't want to get "that" call..... So I've asked him to get on top of this.
Do others have experience? Will his GP be able to test him? I know that anyone in the NHS doing surgery/offering treatment would really want know if penicillin is a problem....

Get an SOS bracelet stating the allergy?

Penicillin allergy is very common. I have it, never been tested, but my mother told me I had it (following an incident when I was a baby).

It’s marked on my GP record but I still have to say every time I’m asked about allergies that I have it. Surely your son will do the same.

Does he know what brand caused the reaction? Was it different from previous treatments?
Please contact the GP with this information and ensure his records are up to date.

I second an allergy bracelet especially for traveling abroad.

Hi I’ve got a serve allergy to penicillin and I have a SOS allergy ID tag on my Apple Watch strap but you can get alsorts of accessories with them on, he really needs to wear something as that’s what people will check for if needed , hope this helps a bit

I’m allergic to penicillin. I have it on my iPhone Emergency Lock Screen and just mention it whenever asked about allergies.

Also allergic to penicillin. Family and partner know. It’s on my emergency medical info on my phone.
