My baby is 7 weeks old, he hasn't had the best start in life and I'm putting it down to his big brother bringing home germs from nursery, he's has 2 eye infections and bronchiolitis. And now he is just constant snotty but no actual snot comes out his nose not even when he sneezes it's just all at the back of his throat it sounds like. And now I'm wondering if he has a milk allergy as he has had these types off poos for about 3 weeks now. Only once a day but if he parts some will come out too? Does this poo look normal or should I go to the dr?

Can't see a pic, my son had cmpa and terrible reflux from it, no rash but his poos were so mucusy and he had a bowel movement many times a day, and often a little poo when he broke wind too. He had bits of white like cottage cheese in too which were undigested milk solids, and finally a steak of blood so health visitor finally took seriously and got him on cmpa formula, he was already on omeprazole for the severe reflux.

I think my images are still under review. My son has no rash, no reflux, he is slightly windy but nothing too much I don't think
He seems to have seedy bits in his poo though so maybe that's undigested milk

Yeah same as my sons, watery, mucusy and milk fats. He's still little but my son started on cmpa formula at 7 weeks and had much more normal poos after, his was quite pronounced and he was sonwindy and unhappy :(

Sorry to jump on here but currently wondering if DS has CMPA but no one seems to be taking it seriously. @Imisscoffee2021mine also often has a little poo when he breaks wind but I didn’t think anything of it. Is that a sign of CMPA?
he only has diarrhoea every now and again and his reflux has been pretty ok since we changed BF position and wind him differently.
but he has a terrible rash all over his face, neck, chest and ears and I keep being told it’s baby acne but I’m honestly not sure.
have either of you been referred to a paediatrician or dietitian?

I dont think doing a bit of poo when he parts is a sign of cmpa. My first son had a horrible rash all over his face, alongside foamy poos and he had a dairy allergy. We were eventually referred to a dermatologist for him after I begged the gp to do something to help me help my son! I self diagnosed the diary allergy with him in the end as the GP just didn't listen thats why i want to gey ahead with this one and sort it as soon as I can x

My newborn baby’s poo looks like that - bright yellow/orange, frothy and liquid with little granules. The pediatrician saw it when we changed her and said it was completely normal

If your previous DC had a dairy allergy then it is highly likely this one will too. Ultimately there are no tests for non-ige allergies though so you can only remove dairy from your diet (and soya) and see how he goes. Then challenge in 4-6 weeks by doing the yogurt protocol and see if symptoms return.

Oldmothershrubboard · 15/04/2025 07:37

Also worth noting cmpa symptoms vary and you don't need to tick all symptoms on the list. My dc1 screamed the house down on dairy and had a face rash, dc2 was a very happy baby but had nappies full of blood.

My son is now 20 months so thankfully through all that now but I went to A&E as a scared new mum when he was 3 weeks as he was just utterly miserable, felt like it couldn't just be colic, he was either crying/whining or asleep and that was it.

Was observed by paediatrics all day and diagnosed with severe reflux, was put on omeprazole. One of the consultants did wonder about cmpa but didn't prescribe formula, it was only 3 weeks later (cant believe how long those weeks felt at that stage looking back!) that his mucus poo, constant wind and a strak of blood in his poo caused the health visitor to realise he had cmpa, though he didn't have the tell tale rash.

It was the reflux that was a killer, so much pain for the little man, was heart breaking. His stomach was always swollen and he was just in such discomfort all the time, the cmpa formula solved that thankfully.

My 1st had horrible skin rashes and horrible poos but was mostly a happy baby. This one is a very happy baby and there is only really the poo and his congestion that is making me think it's a dairy allergy. I think I'll just get a Dr's appointment to discuss it

It’s just so frustrating that GPs and HVs seem to just brush it off until it gets really bad. I have managed to get a GP appointment today after a lot of back and forth as he also has a nappy rash for a week that won’t go away and the skin on his ears have gone yellow and crusty. He also seems a lot less gassy since I stopped eating dairy so hoping they can refer me to a dietitian now.

@EmmaLucy32Hope you have better luck with your GP this time and that they can do something to help your DC.

If you know how to get your calcium you don't need referring to a dietician. All the do in my experience is give you leaflets about what dairy is, what calcium is and where to find it.

Looks like my DD who had milk allergy. It got worse and was eventually green, but started like this.

LittleBear2 · 24/04/2025 09:33

Hi all, our baby boy is really struggling, and after HV, GP and Midwife visits were all useless, we've self-diagnosed him with CMPA. He is exclusively breastfed at the moment.

Our GP diagnosed him with "milk spots" i.e Milia. She also prescribed Zerobase Emollient moisturiser to apply to his face, which contains paraffin. We haven't applied it as the rash is largely around his eyes.

Our first daughter who is now 6 had suspected CMPA and it was awful, it took so long for anyone to officially diagnose it.

Dairy has been cut out of the diet for 4 days now, skin and rash is getting worse, plus his ears are oozing yellow and very crusty.

Posting here for any support and advice :)
