DO you think this could be CMPA?

Hi, my daughter is 6 weeks old and EBF. I have been to a GP and mentioned my concerns, but as she is gaining weight so well, they don’t seem worried and i’m not sure if I should be or not…

Since around 2 weeks of age she has struggled with wind and will often wake herself crying to pass it from her bottom. Gentle massage / helping push her knees up helps relieve this. She can pass wind naturally if awake, but seems after a sleep there is a build up and this causes discomfort.

She currently has a cold.

She generally feeds very well, but this past week she has been fussy on probably a third of her feeds each day. This leads to her pulling off, taking in lots of air and then needing more burping. On some occasions she brings a small amount of milk back up.

She gets hiccups after feeding a couple of times, each day.

Sometimes after feeding, she is very noisy. Almost like she is really working hard to digest the milk.

She has dry skin on her forehead.

She has had 2 mucusy nappies the last week - still yellow in colour. Regularly pooing around 6-7 times a day, these vary in consistency, sometimes more watery than others, but do often contain the small seedy grains.

What I find confusing is that lots of these things happen sometimes and not all the time. Does this mean it isn’t CMPA, if it’s not consistent at each feed? Would you expect to see these symptoms all the time with CMPA?

First time mum and would really appreciate some advice. I don’t want to change my diet if I don’t have too, but equally will if need to for baby.

I should add that she is generally a happy baby too, and minus the discomfort linked to wind, does not show any other signs of being unsettled.

Hello - congratulations on your new baby! To be honest this sounds more like poor latch/getting in quite a lot of air when she's feeding. Keep a track of her symptoms to see if the poos get worse when you consume a lot of dairy.
Recently realised my 6mo has CMPA when she was falling centiles with her weight and her main symptom was always (from birth) excessive vomiting, ie. soaking through her clothes all day long. The vomiting reduced drastically when I cut out dairy and has completely stopped now I've been dairy free for 2 months. Not sure if that's helpful but I would say try not to worry too much, if she's happy and gaining weight then all is probably well!
