Do you know if you're sensitised to SLS?

SoOxon · 17/03/2025 11:46

I don't know but possibly SLS - I have been using Childs Farm shampoo which was fine but doubled in price, so I now have Aussie shampoo and one called HASK which are supposed to be sulphate free.
the rash is at the back of my head in my hairline, red raw, so itchy.
I bought T Gel shampoo which stripped my scalp and exacerbated the itching. What a waste of £7!
I don’t have this rash anywhere else so I would think its possibly a reaction to SLS as you suggest, but suddenly manifested?
I am stressed but no more than usual, wondering if there is a connection?

I was going to suggest switching to SLS-free products as a first step, in case that's what's causing the problem. I think you can become sensitised to it at any time. But it sounds like you're mostly using SLS-free products anyway.

Could it maybe be psoriasis?

eek I don’t know, sounds horrid, I will do some research, thank you - we have a small Boots in the town and a small Health Store I could show them ?

Very much recommend Body Shop ginger shampoo. I have had horrible eczema on my scalp and it was great (terrible experiences with T gel and Aveeno shampoos). It’s worked for my daughter’s psoriasis too.

That's a good idea, asking the pharmacist might get you some useful suggestions. Good luck — scalps are so annoying to treat.
