6 month old with poss hayfever???

For the past two days my 6 month old has been in really crappy form. His eyes are red and streaming and he's rubbing them a lot, he's sneezing and his nose is blocked - does it sound like hayfever or just a sniffle to you? I actually suffer from hayfever myself but mine hasn't kicked in yet and I didn't get it til I was about 16-18. Is it possible for babies to get it so young? what kind of things can they take if it is hayfever?

BeachBunni - my DS was the same at that age, and 12 months later at the same time of year. The doctor I initially took him to aged 18 months dismissed my suggestion of allergies out of hand: a few weeks later I took him to a South African doctor, who said babies could certainly get hayfever and prescribed liquid Clarityn HOWEVER apparently, unlike SA, Clarityn cannot be prescribed to children under two in the UK. So I'm not sure that there's a solution. When he's a bit older, apparently pineapple juice helps (can't confirm as my DS doesn't like pineapple juice). Strangely, this year he doesn't have the problem, and DH does - I suspect this may be because we've moved house and the plants around us are different.

Thanks ponderingtheoptions. I suppose it was to be expected but kind of surmised if he was to get it, it would be later in life like myself. I'll keep a wee eye on him (the only advice my hv could give me today) and fingers crossed it isn't - don't think I could put up with a whole summer of him being miserable as I know how awful it makes me feel. I might even try the pineapple jiuce myself!!

I've heard (planned to try this tomorrow) that a bit of Vaseline under the nose helps (captures the pollen)
DD (21 months) showing symptoms of hay fever, but neither me or DH suffer so I am not sure. Dr thinks it is...
Let me know if you try the vaseline

Needing help - my 8 month old also has hayfever symptoms (very snotty, grumpy & rubbing eyes). Is there really nothing he can take?

i don't think you can use piriton until they are 12 months. you could use a decongestant of some sort?
