Hi Ladies!

Baby boy is coming up to 14 weeks. Really awful start with constant crying, back arching, congestion and reflux. Oh and the good old colic like clock work!

After going back and forth the GP and Hospital. We were prescribed first omeprazole which made no difference. We then did a trial of SMA Alfamino & Lansoprazole. The Alfamino aggravated reflux. I didn’t really notice much difference at this time but I think because of the colic nothing was going to improve.

I did the formula challenge 20th Dec which we successfully completed and transitioned fully onto normal formula by 27th Dec. By this point his poo had turned green and has remained green ever since.

However, he continues to take Lansoprazole and is generally happy in the day. He needs constant distraction/ contact but could be because he is a high needs baby.

During the evenings, he becomes unsettled. Not colic inconsolable crying but periods of crying, back arching & sickness until we get him off to sleep. It will continue when he wakes but again stops when he is back to sleep.

HV has suggested monitoring his poop for another month. Shes been aware of this issue and suggested this last month.

Took to the GP this week who said he looks really healthy, no rash and poop can be all different colours. (I went to the GP as pharmacist said it shouldn’t be green)

My gut tells me its CMPA, but when I trialled before I noticed no difference because of the colic. However these health professionals make me feel like it is all in my head!

He is a nightmare to feed. A terrible habit of 1/2oz every 1.5 hours, however on the days I manage to crack this and stretch to 3/4 hours he rarely finishes a bottle and is sick in lathe volumes.

As he has no rash and steady weight gain (Pretty sure he will have dropped by the next weigh in) Health professionals say he is fine!

Any thoughts?

Edit: I am also managing wake windows to prevent overtired fussiness

There doesn't have to be a rash for it to be Cmpa. Green poos, arching in pain when feeding and afterwards. Constant discomfort. Definitely sounds like Cmpa. My little one has it and never had a rash. At most just looked blotchy sometimes. His was more stomach issues. I'd be switching to a dairy free formula for a few weeks and seeing if you notice a difference. It takes a couple of weeks for dairy to leave the system so trial the new formula for at least 2-3 weeks

You definitely don't need to have a rash. I've been diagnosed with CMPA and don't have a rash. He could have non-Ige symptoms which are often present with a rash.

I'd have a read of this from Allergy UK and if you still think it could be CMPA I'd talk to them or talk to your GP. (I printed off the article and took it to my GP's appointment).

Sounds a lot like my daughter. She has multiple food allergies and severe reflux.
She went on alfamino after breastfeeding wasn't sustainable. She needed the alfamino thickening, high dose omperazole (an alternative to lansoprazole) and domperidone.
Her reflux is in addition to her allergies and we had to have a joined up approach of treating both her allergies and reflux to get her from being a screaming infant!
No rash and at point of diagnosis no issues with poos. Normal for her only turned out to be abnormal after they improved.
